General T & Cs

These terms and conditions apply to bookings and travel on the Middleton Railway (MRT) including any extra services provided. Purchasing a ticket from MRT, in person or online, involves acceptance of these conditions by the purchaser.

1) Tickets:

1.1 Each ticket is issued subject to the payment of the relevant published fare, and the acceptance of these general terms and conditions.
1.2 Everyone travelling on Middleton Railway’s trains must be covered by a valid ticket for their journey.
1.3 Tickets must not be resold.
1.4 Return tickets for Regular Running days are ‘Day Rover’ tickets and are valid on all services that day. A single ticket is only valid for one journey from Moor Road to Park Halt, or from Park Halt to Moor Road.
1.5 Travel tickets are only valid for the date specified on the face of the Ticket.
1.6 Tickets may be purchased online in advance, at the MRT Station Booking Office and, apart from Santa Service Tickets, from the on board travelling Ticket inspectors or guard.
1.7 Bookings made via will receive an email confirmation which must be validated and exchanged for Tickets at the Booking Office on your day of travel.
1.8 Online tickets via are for travel only on dates specified. Once booked, these tickets are NOT transferable to another date, cannot be transferred to another user and are NON-REFUNDABLE.
1.9 Your email confirmation is not a valid travel ticket.

2) Special Events:

2.1 Special events may have higher ticket prices than regular services.
2.2 Special events may have special tickets.
2.3 Special event tickets may not be a ‘Day Rover’ ticket and may only be valid for one return journey.

3) Annual Passes:

3.1 An Annual Pass can be bought from the MRT Station Booking Office.
3.2 To use an Annual Pass, present it at the MRT Station Booking Office to be issued a ticket for the day of travel.
3.3 An Annual Pass is valid on all Regular Running day services.
3.4 An Annual Pass may not be valid on Special Event days – please check our website event page for restriction information.
3.5 An Annual Pass is NOT valid on any of our Santa Specials
3.6 An Annual Pass lasts for 1 calendar year from date of issue.
3.7 An Annual Pass is non-transferable.
3.8 Mis-use of an Annual Pass may result in it’s cancellation.

4) Timetabled Services:

4.1 The issue of a Ticket does not imply that a timetabled service will run, or that enough seats will be available for all passengers intending to travel. All tickets are issued on a “Turn up and Ride” basis.
4.2 Apart from some Special Event tickets, Tickets may be used on any timetabled services for the date issued.
4.3 MRT will use all reasonable endeavours to operate the scheduled timetable, but may change without notice due to circumstances outside of its reasonable control (eg engine failure or adverse weather conditions)
4.4 MRT may substitute alternative locomotive power to the published offering where needed.
