Middleton Railway Little Railway.. ...Big History

Welcome to the Middleton Railway!

Step back in time and experience the world’s oldest continuously working railway. Established in 1758, the Middleton Railway has been at the heart of Leeds’ industrial heritage for over 260 years. From its origins as a pioneer of the first Railway Act of Parliament to witnessing the world’s first commercially successful steam locomotives in 1812, our tracks carry a legacy like no other.

Today, we are a proud award-winning heritage attraction, run entirely by dedicated volunteers. Whether you’re a lifelong rail enthusiast or looking for a unique family day out, there is something for everyone to discover.
