577 Mary Hudswell Clarke 0-4-0DM built 1932
No. 577 Mary was built by Hudswell Clarke in 1932 at the same time
as another Middleton locomotive, John Alcock, was being built by
the Hunslet Engine Co. literally at the other side of the road. The locomotive
went to the Severn Valley Railway from Beswick's Limeworks, Hindlow, Derbyshire.
It was later purchased by a Middleton member and transported to the Middleton
Railway in 1980.
The locomotive is currently powered by a Gardner Diesel engine. Its original
Mirrlees, Bickerton & Day engine is now sectioned and housed in the
Manchester Museum of Science & Technology.
