Railcar Day was added to the Middleton
Railway's 2004 calendar to mark the completion of the restoration of
Wickham Railbus DB999507 by its owner, Graham Parkin, and its formal
entry into passenger service.
The formal launch took place at 12.15
with speeches by Ian Smith (Middleton Railway) and Murray Brown
(Editor, Rail Express Magazine), following which invited guests and
representatives of Middleton Railway travelled on the Wickham to Park
Halt and back.
A regular service was then
operated for members of the public with trains worked alternately by
the Wickham Railbus DB999507 and the EM2 Locomotive Society's former
overhead line inspection vehicle, Drewry car DB998901 OLIV. All
trains went down the Railway's Balm Road Branch and, as a bonus, the
last two trains of the day also traversed the loops at Moor Road, Balm
Road and Park Halt.
The following pictures of the
event were taken by Howard Bishop....
