DB998901 Drewry Car "OLIV" built 1950

DB998901 was built by the Drewry Car Company for British Railways in 1950 for the inspection and maintenance of overhead electric lines. It was used on the Manchester-Sheffield-Wath "Woodhead" route before being handed over to the BR Research Department at Derby in the early 1970s. It was then used to maintain the overhead lines on the BR test track at Old Dalby in Leicestershire.  It was purchased by the EM2 Locomotive Society and transferred to Middleton Railway in November 1997.

The Drewry car is Diesel-powered and has a maximum speed of 23.1 mph although it was designed to run at speeds as low as 1.5 mph whilst inspection of the overhead lines was in progress.

The vehicle has been converted to a passenger carrying vehicle by members of the EM2 Society which received the required authorisation to operate it as such in May 2002 (see  press release).

Further information about the Society, together with a detailed restoration diary, can be found on the EM2 Society's own web pages.
