Our annual Model Railway Exhibition took place as usual in the Engine House on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th June 2018.

We were open from 10:00 until 17:00 each day, and steam passenger trains were operating regularly between 11:00 and 16:00 on both days. Light refreshments were available as usual in our shop/café.

Visitors could admire the models set amongst the real thing in our Engine House and could travel on a full size steam train. There was also the opportunity (for those 18 or over) to drive a full size locomotive - two different locomotives were in operation each day. Steam locomotives are now in their third century of operation at Middleton, and we were operating 'Driver Experiences' on one of ours.

With the exception of a 'Driver Experience', all areas of the exhibition and the train rides were accessible to visitors with disabilities.

We were expecting at least nine layouts in a variety of scales, which included O, OO, N and 009. Layouts included: Water Street Sidings (O), Middleton Colliery (OO), Lothersdale (N), Much Snoring (N), Angst-Lesspork (OO9), and Blwch Teganau (OO9), together with demonstrations from UK Train sim live. Reminding us that model railways are fun too we had vintage Tri-ang OO and some ‘hands on’ layouts – all upstairs in our ‘play room’! Traders included Keith’s Model Railways, Leigh Models and Hobbies, Helm Models & Hobbies, Leeds Transport Historical Society (with a tramway layout) and second hand tables.

This was an event for all the family - not just the modeller. When the non-modellers had exhausted the facilities we offer at Moor Road we had Middleton Park and Woods at the top of the line, the Tulip Retail Park opposite and the White Rose Shopping Centre just a short distance away. We pride ourselves on a welcome for all, and visitors could come and experience it for themselves.
